The first letter is found on Row 1 Column B its name is Aleph.  The transliteration is "/", but it is a silent letter.

The transliteration of this word is "/ERETz."

Now we will use this word as an example to show you how Hebrew words are built.

SUFFIXES + ROOT + PREFIXES

A root word may have multiple prefixes and / or suffixes attached to it.

Example #1

The prefix "HA" is added to the root word "ERETz." The first vowel of ERETz is changed from an "E" to an "A" to allow for the prefix to be added.  The above word is transliterated "HA/ARETz" and translated "the earth."

Example #2

The transliteration of this word is "VeHA/ARETz" and is translated "and the earth."

The above examples will help you understand how to use the Hebrew Interlinear Bible better.
