Introductory Notes
| This is one of the most controversial Hebrew roots you
will encounter in your studies. It is a theologically loaded code
word that a large number of religious institutions have a vested
interest in maintaining their particular definition. Therefore,
expect to encounter a great number of very polarized positions as you
analyze the words related to this root. Some will threaten you
with eternal damnation and punishment in hell if you dare disagree with
their definition. Others will threaten you by saying that you will
not have a share in the world to come if you disagree with them.
Keep in mind that none of those institutions existed during the time
period covered by the biblical accounts, even during New Testament
times.
Our research indicates that the people of Israel who lived during
biblical times would have not understood either monotheism or
trinitarianism. Our goal is to understand what this word meant to
them. Since this is such a theologically important word it is
absolutely essential that you do your own research and come to a
conclusion as to its correct meaning based on the linguistic and
historical evidence. |
