in her 83rd year. Predeceased by her beloved
husband of 59 years, William Lester Stewart (2005), a sister Betty Vogel
(1971) and her parents Monroe Thomas and Elizabeth (McDonald) Smock of
Daviess Co. KY. Mourned by son Jim Stewart and wife Dorothy of St.
Thomas and grandsons Noah Stewart, and girlfriend Allison Rinkel, and
Perry Stewart of
London
,
Ontario
. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins throughout the
US
.
Marji was born in Ranger, TX in 1927 and grew up in TX, MO, and KY. Her
father was a riverboat captain so the family moved around extensively.
Marji and Bill, in their married life, did the same, making homes in KY,
CA and later in NV, UT and
St. Thomas
,
Ontario
. They traveled extensively throughout the
southwest US and
Israel
. Marji received degrees from UCLA,
University
of
Kentucky
and her PhD in Home Economics at
Ohio
State
University
in 1968. She taught in the
Kentucky
secondary school system, at
Murray
State
University
and the
University
of
Kentucky
at
Lexington
where she served as Dean of the
College
of
Home Economics
from 1972 to 1982. As Dean, she oversaw the
university extension services throughout the state.
A memorial service will be held at Glenn Funeral
Home,
900 Old Hartford Rd
,
Owensboro
at
2pm
Wed, Dec 30. There will be
visitation at the funeral home on Tue, Dec 29 from
6-8pm
and Wed, Dec 30 from
12-2pm
She will be interred beside her husband Bill in
the Owensboro Memorial Gardens Veterans' Field of Honour. In lieu of
flowers, remembrances to the Stewart Family Consumer Sciences
Cooperative Extension Endowed Scholarship at
UK
or the library of your choice would be
appreciated.
