| Almost 2000 years have passed since the destruction of
the Jerusalem Temple by the Roman army. It took over 300 years for
the theological foundation to be laid for what has become the Christianity
known to many Christians today. It would still take another 1100
years for the Protestant version to be born. Today there are
literally thousands of variations of Christianity in the world. At
the heart of Christianity is the Christian Bible with a wide variety of
translations and interpretations.
During this same period a new form of Judaism was born:
Rabbinic Judaism.
It was the
descendant of Second Temple Judaism which developed after the
destruction of the First Temple in 586 BC. It would take a little
over a century for the Oral Law (Mishnah) to be written. It
would become the foundation for Rabbinic Judaism. A few centuries
later it would be expanded to become the Talmud. Rabbinic Judaism
hasn't matched Christianity when it comes to the wide variety of
sectarian groups, but it is comprised of a number of different
versions.
Each denomination or congregation has its own history. An
exciting part of the Biblical Heritage journey is to learn about the
history of the one or more groups that have influenced your life. When
did it begin and why? What were the names of the original
founders? Did it split from an earlier group? If so,
why? Have other groups split from it? If so, why? This
section of the website is designed to help you find answers to your
questions.
