| The
Bible is the most important book in the United States of America.
It influences the lives and the decisions that millions of Americans
make every day. Those decisions range from determining what is
good or evil to the choice of which candidate they will cast their vote
for President. According to a recent polls (TIME/CNN
Poll & ABC poll).
(1)
36% of
Americans (over 106,000,000) believe their Bible is the word of God and is to be
taken literally.
(2) 64% believe the story of God's parting the Red Sea for the
Israelites is true.
(3) 61% believe
in a
literal six-day creation as chronicled in the book of Genesis.
(4) 60% believe the details of Noah's ark and the Great Flood.
The link between the Bible and belief in God is
inescapable. Obviously, before one can believe the Bible is the word of
God one has to believe in God. According to the Harris
Poll #11 (2003):
(1) 90% of American adults
believe in God.
(2) 93% of American women believe in God.
(3) 96% of African-Americans believe in God.
(4) 93% of Republicans believe in God.
The source of a vast majority of America's beliefs
about God is the Bible. There is no doubt that it is one of the most read books of all times and
has always been at the top of every list of "best
sellers." Yet, even though its words are so well known to so
many, the overwhelming majority know very little, if anything at all,
about the history of their Bible. This website is designed to help
you learn more about the Bible and its journey from antiquity to
the present day. It has taken the efforts of a countless number of
individuals to make that journey possible.
The
Biblical Heritage Center (BHC) is not a religious organization and thus has no
hidden agenda to proselytize anyone. BHC is an information
gathering and distribution organization. Our information sources
are not limited to just a few individuals or institutions. We
search through a wide variety of information resources provided by
individuals, educational institutions and religious institutions for the
most accurate information. We welcome your input if you discover
more accurate information. We
recommend that you take a chronological journey of
the Bible's history -- from the oldest references to present day beliefs. As you travel from one section
of our website to another you will find our
comments and recommended links that will guide you to other sources of important documents
and information. This website also includes the Information
Resource Center (at the top of every page), which contains links to a
wide variety of information sources for those who desire to learn more. Your
next stop will be "History & the Bible." |
